christmas christmas!

So the christmas holidays were pretty darn awesome. Johnny's place in ramsdell is always good fun. With 25 other people from various countries, we played dijoridoo, sang by the fire, danced the night away, sang christmas carols (badly but nobody cared), had a classic christmas banquet, went for long muddy walks by lakes, attended service in a quaint jane austen-type church and ate too much good food.
am refreshed from the 5 days of fun, its time to crack the whip and start studying. in earnest!

o shout for joy

its the holidays!
i've plenty of things to be grateful for this year. favour of God has been mighty in my life and i haven't been a tad miserable at all this 2nd year in university.
true, the work has been aplenty and free time has been few and far between, but the company's been great and the health's been amazing.
met new people, saw new things, done the runs, ate the same old food but loved it all. Praise God for all the blessings this year & the year to come!! woohoo...

London..wait for me!

that feelingalingaling

what is this feeling? being all knotted up inside, butterflies in the belly?
possessing all this nervous energy and not being able to concentrate at the task at hand. yearning for that teasing sweet smell and hardly able to contain the excitement of being in the same room as "it" again.
unable to sit still and you find your mind wandering to the most interesting subject. "it."
waiting impatiently for the hour when i'll be able to quench the desire for it again.

oh bak kut teh. you make me giddy.

marathons

10km race by the 4th of jan! hoohaa. i must say, this is shaping up to be fittest i've ever been in 20years. pilates class and 7km run achieved in half an hour today without too much overexertion. well done me!! *pats on back*
its true when they say you can get addicted to exercise, although i'm not. Not yet.

another weekend. can't wait for the next.

hopefully this weekend will rejuvenate the creative juices and get the little grey cells multiplying again. handy little diversions like the housewarming party and charity run may, just may, stifle the urge to throw a tantrum/fit in the middle of class.

on a side note, i've become very organised in my notes (this will undoubtedly frighten C.C.) but yes i have become the queen of neatness. not so in my room though, unfortunately still looks like a refuge camp for clothes & plastic bags.

proof of a boring, nerdy life is having to blog about mundane activities just because you've nothing else to blog about.

elementary, my dear

she'll be around for youth camp 2008. she will. be it hijacking a private jet or hotballooning it across the oceans.

fleas

flea markets rock. the english versions of jelutong market. love it.

blouses for 50pence-1pd. brand new shoes for 1pd. vintage accessories for 50p. big belts for 50p.

who says you can't look good for less than 3pd?

i think i love

-theories more than people. learning about what theoretically could be wrong, rather than actually having to deal with humans with pathologies. what a cold-hearted beast!
-don moen, the man's an anointed genius. the christian version of Mozart/Dean Martin/Keith Urban. =D love the new cd, with much better versions of hillsong creations. go don.

living on snozzcumbers

Olfactory senses. a bane and boon. they trigger off a certain memory of a dish, more specifically sar hor fan. you never knew you missed that delicious gravy with its fat soft noodles, complimented with eggs, shrimp & roast pork till you catch a whiff of a certain smell (the smell of oil and fried something-or-other).

Smell memories that lay dormant now emerge and trigger an acute craving for that delectable satisfying meal. Cravings so acute and persistent it makes you want to leap up in the midst of class and yell, " Give me Sar Hor Fan or give me death!"
nothing that dramatic, but still..............its pure torture.

Friday, November 21, 2008

i need a holiday!! badly. not just in 5 weeks but now. neuro without the time factor would be a real adventure and much fun, but right now its like a black hole sucking everything in an endless abyss of misery. exaggeration is needed to emphasize my sufferings.

and the one time i feel like going to the city, it reverts to arctic weather.

gripe. moan. grumble. pish!

shock & envy

i need new shoes. i do. like ballet flats or something. rachel showing off her sparkly red ballet flats has got me jealous.

i've got "events" coming in december & haven't got a decent pair of party shoes, except for a pair of purple heels which are worn down. i only have 4 pairs of shoes, half of which are sneakers. like what! scandalous.

the mirror nearly cracked when i took a good look in it just now. the old eyebrows need some major reshaping,i'm starting to look like bert or ernie. goodness i've really let myself go.

one of those extremely rare days when i concern myself with female fashion nonsense- hence the sesame street eyebrows. i don't normally, honest i don't. =D

fireworks and schedules

december's events:
polish hot pot night
BHF 3km run
London London!

oh, guy fawkes' night. i'm so pleased with the view from my room. who needs to get out when you see everything from the window.

Thursday, October 30, 2008

Sherlock Holmes is in manchester! bringing along Robert Downey, Jude Law and that guy who was married to mad-onna.

its too cold and rainy to go watch RD Jr. jump out of a stained glass window at the Town Hall though. i'm far too lazy. If they wanted the smoky, littered streets of London past effect, they could've just filmed in salford. Salford plays that part to perfection.

i am a workhorse. i plow. i slog.

i am a mule. i am a camel. i carry heavy loads.

i am a workhorse.

nothing but stinkin' yoghurt in the fridge.

Champagne, everyone!

God is indeed marvellous, sometimes u have to wonder at your own faithlessness. It is fruitless to worry, murmur, complain and get a bee in your bonnets about earthly matters. God works all things out for the good of those who love Him. And I do!

what brings on the lollipop/colourful balloon/picnic in the sun kind of happiness? Just met my new gay Polish housemate. Seems very nice, very soft-spoken and quiet. First impressions do not reveal any freaky and weird characteristics so of course i am over the moon. of course, this is all based on a a few precious minutes sizing him up. But my gut tells me he won't be any trouble.

in fact, i may have appeared to be the crazy housemate, coming out in bright pink and blue curlers to shake his hands.

Monday, October 20, 2008

wouldn't it be nice if i had 1,000,000 dollars?

inconsiderate people. they make the world go round. and round and round. let me get off.
i am so done dealing with pigheaded bimbotic housemates whose lives revolve around themselves. yes, cliched but it strikes at the essence of some people. its a dog eat dog world. i wish that proverbial dog would just devour them all.
well then, maybe bimbo girl housemates are irritating. what do you say to a bimbo male housemate? full fledged gay and proud of it. from the vague description my previous bimbo housemate gave me thats what he is. i'm praying my incoming housemate will not be the mardi gras, cocktail-in-one-hand and cigarette in the other gay man. i'm really building an image of him here. oh Lord, help! Please say it isn't so!
i hate sharing apartments. i can't stress that enough.

those crazy lovely rainbows

what do you do when not one perfect rainbow, but 2 lovely ones side by side are staring at you in the face? right outside your window as well, very convenient for that perfect shot. you trip over yourself getting the camera and then spend the rest of the evening squealing intermittently and grinning to your crazy self. What an awesome blessing! Praise Adonai!

much more perfect than any of your rainbows, Rachel!! nyeh! woooo!

at the copacobana

i have to put up the pictures before i get too lazy to do so. salsa night at copacabana. yes i was hustled into going, but did enjoy meself. nice laidback atmosphere, none of that horibble headspinning modern music, but salsa music! was good just to sit and talk and salsa with a few of the girls. turns out, this gal's got rhythm (not to blow my own horn but...)! haha. woo!

more to come. if i'm too lazy just facebook it heh.

reels

RD Jr. certainly does not disappoint in Tropic Thunder. It wasn't all it was hyped up about, far too much cussing for my liking, but i had a few good laughs. nice cameos by celebrities as well, was well surprised. Certainly set the mood for friday evening. And now, for Mamma Mia! you've got to love streaming movies for free, no need for computer space hogging downloads. 66stage.com is the perfect place for live streaming.

Monday, October 6, 2008

i've joined in the free handbag craze. just for kicks( and also in hopes of getting a free handbag). http://www.handbagplanet.com/ whats the harm eh.

on another note, i'm taking to baking. cookies, muffins, scones. and am dying, dying for Paul Wilbur's new CD- The Watchman. christmas present, anybody?

Friday, October 3, 2008

i'm going to have to watch Mamma Mia, if only for all these facebook people promoting it on their status updates. and ABBA songs, sticks in your head like an irritating melody.

where is the wit?

i think the Bronte sisters are such miserable bags. its no fun reading their novels. well, jane eyre had a happy ending but mr rochester went blind! emily bronte's wuthering heights, what was that all about? heathcliff was a stark-raving madman. let us now consider anne bronte with her period piece Agnes Grey and the tenant of wildfell hall. agnes grey wasn't too bad, abit dry. The tenant was another thing altogether, depicting drunkenness, degradation and violence.
miserable creatures. and i've run out of austen books to read.

auditory companionship

listening to news on the radio is strangely comforting. i wonder why. listening to IFBN and front page news on wstw.fm is calming to the auditory senses. i think i derive companionship from conversations over the radio. worrying? anyway, my favourite is still the earl cox commentary, that black man sure has a deep velvety soothing, albeit slightly booming tone, much like James Earl Jones.

ah, frivolous wonderings late at night.

Friday, September 26, 2008

ah to elicit sweet dulcet tones from the faithful pianoforte with my lithe fingers again. all that's left is to play the air piano esp. when a fantastic song is playing on the airwaves.

autumn in salford

8 days remain. they'll have to drag me kicking and screaming to the airport. i shall put up a good fight. whats so annoying is the departure date is September 15th. that is a day before September 16th (if you didn't know that already). how inconvenient. again, i am missing all the celebrations and excitement. oh well, am immensely blessed for the food, church, Harp & Bowl sessions, outings and the all important lazing around at home. more next year! i am going to miss church...!!

things to look forward to in the UK: make me some cookies, muffins, cucumber sandwiches, jars of lemonade, treacle pudding and look for the Faraway Tree where Moonface lives in (go brush up your Enid Blyton knowledge).

all lazed and SODA-ed out

the lazy bum bum has quit after 4 days of work, which to be fair, seemed like 4 weeks. i'm a lazy bum bum. why waste precious 3 months hols just standing around looking pretty and NOT being paid? instead, go shop at Sunshine and find unbelievable sales, i.e. SODA summer dress and lovely skirt sold for 10 bucks each only.

of j.austen and red pumps

my brain's shot after watching back to back Jane Austen movies. Starting off with Persuasion then on to Northanger Abbey. A little toilet break and some cornflakes in heavily sugared milo then its Sense and Sensibility 1995 version (the one with Hugh Grant, although i abhor the man. watched it because Alan Rickman is magnifico as Col. Brandon). The last Austen movie, Emma finished the night. Twas the best movie out of all...did the book justice. Sense and Sensibility was slighty disappointing, only Col. Brandon saved the day. My affections lie with Alan Rickman can you tell?
On a slighty hedonistic note, got me some Balenciaga red/gold pumps on Monday for real cheap. Am well pleased!

reunion shenanigans

after being the proverbial katak di bawah tempurung since i've been back in penang, we had a class reunion cum farewell for those Form 6 people. not everybody was there but it was fun and noisy. as should be expected. it was good to see those kooky girls again all grown up.

the conquered mountain

a picture from atop grisdale pike. alas, the foggy weather prevents a much lovelier view. could have seen all the way to ireland actually. for a person who puffs and huffs when climbing Penang Hill, i did pretty well for 791metres, up and down a ridge.

Psalm 92

1.It is good to praise the Lord and make music to Your name, O Most High
2. To proclaim Your love in the morning and Your faithfulness at night- continously being thankful for Abba Father's love and faithfulness.
3. To the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.
4. For You make me glad by Your deeds O Lord, I sing for joy at the works of Your hands- rejoicing over God's saving and gracious acts over our lives everyday
5. How great are Your works O Lord, how profound Your thoughts- the writer admires the miracles God has done and the depth of God's thoughts. the depth of it is reflected by His deeds.
12. The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon- the cedar of Lebanon symbolizes strength and magnificence. cedar wood is also very aromatic. the righteous smell good. =)
13. Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of the Lord- the righteous will be planted in a secure place and will be fruitful.
14. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green- being supplied by God's living waters.
15. Proclaiming, " The Lord is upright, He is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in Him." - therefore strive to be pure for our God is holy and cannot abide wickedness.

lecturer emails

physio lecturers are just cool people..
David Dean
To:
HL-S-PHY-08@,
Subject:
Forget about exams!: HL-S-PHY-08
Hi all,I thought that would get your attention? This afternoon I have specifically laid on (small fib) an opportunity to recharge your batteries and think about something completely different for half an hour (true). Another Open Day is scheduled this afternoon & there is opportunity for a select number of you to have a 'chin wag' with some students potentially thinking of Physiotherapy and coming to Salford. Email me if you are able. You would need to meet in G17 at 3pm. Normal rates of pay apply. You will receive a personally signed letter of commendation for your portfolio (this looks v. good at interview and practically guarantees a highly paid Sen. Physio job offer - honest*)3. You will receive a a 'Finger of Fudge' for your tummy (the un-crowned 'King of confectionery'). Any volunteers automatically would get above 80% from me in the current exams (the fact I'm not examining you this time shouldn't necessarily put you off - it's the thought that counts after all).Let me know if you want to be involved? Either way hope exams/revision aren't proving to stressful. If they are please re-read the above.....
All the best,David

gleeful for all the wrong reasons

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

perfect, perfect spring weather today. the most MOST most perfect weather i've ever experienced. the sun shining golden rays everywhere, it was hot but nicely so. the breeze cool and calm and just sitting out on a hillock with good company, eating. lying around in a bed of flowers, no venomous ants crawling around waiting to pinch you to death. pink flowers showering down from trees. an hour of perfect bliss. the sound of happy people soaking up the precious once in a lifetime good english weather. marvellous!

SG this is for you! =)

In the Torah (the first five books of Moses), there were seven sacred festivals instituted by God:
The Feast of Passover (Pesach) - celebrated the night when the angel passed over the Hebrew households in Egypt.
The Feast of Unleavened Bread - commemorated the first 7 days of the Exodus when the Hebrews left Egypt in such a hurry that they did not have time to add yeast to their dough.
The Feast of Weeks - also called the Pentecost (Shavuot). It marked the end of the harvest and offering of first fruits.
The Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) - the blowing of a ram's horn, or shofar, to call the people to prepare for the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). Later this day became the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah).
The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) - the most solemn day of the year. On this day, the High Priest sacrificed sin offerings to atone all the sins of the people and entered the Most Holy Place to offer incense.
The Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) - celebrated the completion of the great fall harvest and remembered the Hebrews in the Exodus living in tents for 40 years.
The Feast of the Last Great Day (Shmini Atzeret) - marked the conclusion of the festival year.

Of the above, 3 were considered as "major feasts": the Feast of Passover (Pesach), the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), and the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). These are often called "pilgrim feasts" because all adult males were required to travel to the sanctuary to take part (Deuteronomy 16:16).

Indescribable-Chris Tomlin

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea

Creation's revealing Your majesty

From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring

Every creature unique in the song that it sings

All exclaiming Indescribable, uncontainable,

You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untamable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, untamable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
You are amazing God!

Behold! Winter's past and spring has arrived. woohoo..the golden daffodils a bloomin' and birds a chirpin'. pictures don't do justice to the marvellous feeling of spring!

does it not happen here?

here's an odd observation, i've never as yet seen or heard lightning or thunder since i came to the UK. hmmm....food for thought.

speaking of food for thought, here's another one. There is a plastic purple watering can next to my toilet. No there aren't any plants in the toilet. Me thinks I don't know half the weird things that go on in this 4-person apartment.

Ecclesiastes 11:7-10
7. Light is sweet and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.
8. However many years a man may live,
let him enjoy them all.
But let him remember the days of darkness for they will be many.
Everything is meaningless.
9. Be happy, young man, while you are young,
and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see,
BUT know that for all these things God will bring you to judgement.
10. So then, banish anxiety from your heart,
and cast off the troubles of your body
for youth and vigour is meaningless.

the words of Solomon.

my art.

i draw very good pictures. in my head. i have all these beautiful pictureque scenes in my head and i'm convinced it will come out beautifully on paper but....it doesn't. i think i have relatively weak(bad!) spatial-temporal reasoning. its even difficult to draw a proper cube! my trees come out bigger than the houses, the flowers are gargantuan compared to the pet dog, my car looks like a cardboard cutting and the portrait of james brooke, rajah of sarawak came out all misshapen. resigned to the fact i can't draw for nuts even though i like drawing. unnggh. i can, however, draw alot of picasso-like meaningless art.

i still think i can paint though. =D we'll see this summer hols. get out the brushes and colours!

the weekend

Blessed resurrection weekend! ah did i have a good time or what.
spent the weekend in jane austen country in a big rustic house with good food and good company.
waking up to lush green meadows, wooden stiles and the smell of bacon and eggs.
sleeping by the fire on a saturday afternoon while it snows.
walking to lunch in freaky weather that changes from snow to sunny bright weather in less than 5 mins.
sitting by the fireplace listening to stories being told by a proper storyteller and not those sien-looking kindy teachers back home.
being overawed by Hillsongs in london.
eating authentic chinese food for a change.
and finally rotting in front of the telly for 5hours straight.
did i mention the scrumpdiddlylicious food as well?
i've been well pampered. oh yes.

the blue sunset

oh night, night so blue. i think i've found the most perfect colour blue i've seen so far.

note the deeper shades of prussian blue diffusing in around the sides of the picture.
Lovely wednesday night, night so blue.

Psalm 100

Psalm 100
1. Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth
2. Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before Him with joyful songs.
3. Know that the Lord is GOD.
It is He who made us( and not we ourselves), and we are His
we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.
4. Enter His gates with thanksgiving
and His courts with praise;
give thanks to Him and praise His name.
5. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues through all generations.

We are like royal diadems in His hand. Rejoice!

Psalm 45

i love Psalm 45. Especially the first verse. the headings say, to the tune of "Lilies". Of the Sons of Korah. A wedding song.

1. My heart is stirred by a noble theme

as I recite my verses for the king,

my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.

2. You are the most excellent of men

and your lips have been anointed with grace

since God has blessed you forever.

3. Gird your sword upon your side, O mighty one

clothe yourself with splendour and majesty.

It speaks of King David's marriage preparations to a princess from Tyre. Read on and there's the princess' preparation. Gowns woven with gold, embroidered garments. Beautiful, no? In my opinion, this was probably a very popular, topping the charts tune back in that era. =D You got the ephod-wearing levites toe-tapping, swaying to this song. There is a song based on this psalm by Greg Silverman titled 'Noble Theme'. Ah, lovely lovelies.

judgement time!

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/3/11/nation/20080311085456&sec=nation

Psalm 75

1. We give thanks to You, O God,
we give thanks for Your Name is near,
men tell of Your wonderful deeds.
2. You say, "I choose the appointed time,
it is I who judge uprightly.
3. When the earth and all its people quake,
it is I who hold its pillars firm. Selah
4. To the arrogant I say, 'Boast no more',
and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horns',
do not speak with outstretched neck.
6. No one from the east or the west
can exalt a man.
7. But it is God who judges,
He brings one down, He exalts another.
8. In the hand of the Lord is a cup
full of foaming wine mixed with spices
He pours it out and all the wicked of the earth
drink it down to its very dregs.
9. As for me, I will declare this forever;
I will sing praise to the God of Jacob.
10. I will cut of the horns of all the wicked,
but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

*God judges the wicked. He will not let the wicked prevail. =D These are exciting times indeed.

*title similar to last post* =D

i am doing the happy jig, throwing confetti around & cracking open champagne.
i bless Adonai for all the prayers He has graciously answered.
i give Him glory for granting many penangites their most gloriously peaceful and ecstatic sleep they've ever had for years.
i dearly wish i was back in penang amidst the crazy excitement.
anyway, at least i get to keep track of live updates via http://malaysiakini.x10hosting.com/.
5 states already! HaTov Shimcha! For Your name is the Beneficient One.
victory dance!

ps. hardly any studying done today. tsk. never mind, allow for these wonderful distractions.

change! change! everything must change

Like a caterpillar, i'm waiting to emerge from the cocoon of darkness and cold.
Like the cicada, i yearn to break free from the damp, gloomy ground to fly around in golden sunshine.

Oh spring, whereth thou? Winter hangs over me like a persistent cold. It is already March. Hasten, o spring!

sounds

its the familiar sounds that make you feel at home. I don't necessarily miss "home" or penang much, just those seemingly inconsequential noises that you hear everyday. i miss the roti man clanging away on his bell, the beeping of the truck carrying veggies into the house nearby or even the mat rempits racing up and down the street. heh.

i bet i'll miss some familiar sounds here when i go back for the summer holidays. like the daily emptying of beer bottles into the rubbish truck at the nearby pub, or the drunken screams of retards outside the pub. yep i'll miss that ALOT.

heavenly weekend

ask me how my weekend went. go on. why, it went wonderfully well thank you. started off with me finding 2 pretty dark pink blouses at 2pound each which i immediately snatched. then off i went to a wonderful chinese lady's house, whom i know, for tea (or dinner as we know it). it got late, so she decided i had better stay over, which i happily concurred as i love love LOVE the beds in her house. soft, dreamy, springy beds with lovely thick rose-patterned duvets. its like sleeping in heaven. =D

sunday dawned, had a Nutella toast and chocolate drink breakfast then drove off to church. afterwhich, we came home and sat down to some yummy pork belly gravy soup and some fried veggies. to help move the bowels, we then went off to the nearby park with her pet chihuahua. oh, the park is lovely. will take some pictures when i go around again. soon..i promise. duck ponds with about 50 ducks, the pond was frozen over coz it was so darn chilly today. flowers were bloomin', dogs were barkin', the sun was shinin' golden, good-lookin' people were walkin'....marvellous.

came home to some lovely tea, fresh cream sponge cake and hot chocolate. but, all good things must come to a temporary end, i'm back in this shabby place BUT...i have some lovely things i brought back. its FREE.
brown-white satiny scarf with a bird motif. MINE for free.
whilst helping this lady sort through some clothes going to be donated to the homeless, i found this wonderful posh branded spring coat. so this "homeless" person, decided to take it. its mine. i am blessed, am i not? just as i was contemplating if i needed a spring coat.

body warmer coat and some wrist-bags for formal events. for the homeless, but what would the homeless want with posh formal bags anyway, eh? granted, the homeless need body-warmers but oh well....MINE.

don't i look poshy? heeeheeeheee...mine all mine!! and the best thing is, its absolutely free. i am blessed. hoohaahaa.
